Large aerodynamic wind tunnel

WWTF's wind tunnel contains two test sections that are specifically designed for aerospace engineering and structural/environmental engineering. Both sections have a cross-section of about 2.5 m wide and 2 m high and the test wind speed ranges from 15 m/s to 40 m/s. In aerodynamic test section, a model support is designed for studying the wind loading on aircraft model, UAV, propeller model, etc. The support is capable of changing the pitch, yaw and roll angle of model. The flow at the aerodynamic test section is a uniform smooth flow with turbulence less than 0.12%. In structural/environmental test section, it is typically used for detailed model tests, such as high frequency force balance tests, fa癟ade pressure tests and pedestrian level wind environment. The test section has a fetch length of 6 m and is fitted with 93 computer controlled, pneumatically operated roughness elements that allow fine control of the simulated turbulence characteristics.
